HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

 

Initial Training

 

 

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian
Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR,
in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Entry requirement
This initial training is intended for students who have no prior training or experience.
Students need to be at least 18 years old and be physically able to satisfactorily perform at least
- 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) made up of 5
cycles of both compressions and ventilations on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the
floor and
- 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) made up of 5
cycles of both compressions and ventilations on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a
firm surface
Delivery mode and duration
This unit of competency requires attendance at a face to face training session and completion of
practical assessment tasks.
The training session takes 6 hours including the practical assessment tasks which requires the
ability to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to
life. One requirement of the training package is that you are to be assessed as physically capable
of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on an adult resuscitation manikin placed
on the floor; including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to
compressions. There can be no exceptions to this requirement.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Level Required
Students will need to converse in English to take part in the scenarios in class.
Specifically they need to be able to
− Read information from a PowerPoint and whiteboard
− Listen and understand verbal information delivered by an English-speaking trainer
− Complete written incident report forms in English
− Read and answer a multiple-choice question paper
− Read and answer a short-written answer test
− Listen to instructions of an Automated External Defibrillator with prompts delivered in English
− Be able to count to 30

Refresher course

 

 

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to
perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian
Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR,
in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Entry requirement
This shorter refresher training is intended for students who have previous training or experience
in CPR.
It is recommended that this unit be renewed every 12 months so that the level of knowledge and
skill is maintained to the standard required.
Students need to be at least 18 years old and be physically able to satisfactorily perform at least
- 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) made up of 5
cycles of both compressions and ventilations on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the
floor and
- 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) made up of 5
cycles of both compressions and ventilations on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a
firm surface
